What is MiraDry?

MiraDry is a quick, non-surgical procedure which reduces sweat in the armpits – It is performed under local anaesthetic. The miraDry is a device that precisely delivers electromagnetic waves to the underarms sweat glands to permanently remove them.

How do I know if I want/need miraDry?

If you want to permanently reduce underarm sweat and odour or want a long-term alternative to 8-month long injections for your excessive sweating, and also wanting to wear lighter colour tops but you can’t because of wet patches due to underarm sweat; miraDry would be the best solution for you.

MiraDry is more suited for patients with primary hyperhidrosis (spoken about later). If sweating is caused by a separate problem, for example, using some anti-depressants (some can do that), it should always be addressed

How does miraDry work?

MiraDry is known to reduce excessive sweating; it is a non-invasive solution for underarms that will provide long lasting results. When the miraDry device is placed on the underarm, the device will distribute an electromagnetic wave that will precisely remove the sweat glands.

Our bodies currently have anywhere from 2-4 million sweat glands our underarms have got about 2% of the sweat glands, removing the sweat glands under the underarms will not disturb your body’s natural cooling process.

Each miraDry session, the treatment will be customised so that you remain comfortable; local anaesthesia will be used before the treatment commences. While the miraDry treatment results vary between patients, most patients report seeing sweat reductions up to 86% – some patients even see sweat reduction after the first procedure.

While recovering, some patients may feel a small swelling and/or soreness; this will gradually clear up after a few weeks. In some rare cases, patients may experience short-term numbness in the underarm region or the skin of the upper arm.

What causes excessive sweating?

Hyperhidrosis is a condition known by its excess sweating (excess of the usual needs of the body). There are actually two types of hyperhidrosis, primary and secondary.

Primary hyperhidrosis usually occurs without any reasons; it results in excessive sweating in the palms, underarms, feet and more. In many patients, it is associated with family history.

Secondary hyperhidrosis occurs because of underlying medical conditions including infections, injuries, disorders and more.

What is vitiligo?

Vitiligo is a skin condition characterised by patches of the skin on an individual losing their pigment. The patches of skin which are affected become white and usually have quite sharp margins. Typically both sides of the body are affected and this skin condition does also come with some other symptoms such as the hair from the skin becoming white and even the inside of the mouth and nose may be involved.

What causes vitiligo?

There are so many theories that have been hypothesised throughout time to explain the cause of vitiligo. However, still to this day, nobody knows the cause to this skin condition.

Some of the possibilities may include:

 Immunity disorders

 Skin pigment self-destruction

 Skin nerve disorders

Also, all of the above together is also a possibility to what causes vitiligo.

Types of vitiligo

From our research, we understand that there are two different types of vitiligo. These include non-segmental and segmental vitiligo. Both of these types affect different types of your body. To find out more about each type, do some independent research. However, also in rare cases, it is possible for the skin condition to affect your whole body which is known as either complete or universal vitiligo.

 Skin camouflage

Skin camouflage involves applying coloured creams to the white patches which are affected by vitiligo. These creams are specially made for individuals with the skin condition and may help to blend them, allowing them to be less noticeable.
