Staffordshire Braille company teams up with Guide Dogs for puppy love

STAFFORDSHIRE firm, Braille Transcription UK Ltd has teamed up with
The Guide Dogs for the Blind Association to sponsor a guide dog puppy.

11 puppy labradors sitting on a wooden bench Celebrating the partnership, a cute guide dog puppy was introduced to the company’s team at Sight Village, (an exhibition promoting technology and specialist services for the visually impaired), Birmingham, on Thursday 14 July 2004.

Producing alternative reading material for a variety of businesses throughout the UK, Braille Transcription UK will be encouraging its customers to support its fundraising effort by donating used stamps, old mobile phones and inkjet cartridges.

Directors Philip and Judy Anderson holding 8 week old black labrador puppy Managing director Philip Anderson explains: “Braille allows visually impaired people to read, whilst guide dogs transform their mobility and independence. Together, Braille Transcription UK Ltd and Guide Dogs make a perfect partnership for the blind and partially sighted population.”

Jayne Neal, corporate relationships manager with Guide Dogs said: "We are absolutely thrilled that Braille Transcription UK Ltd has chosen us as their charity. The £5,000 they aim to raise will support a puppy through its vital early stages of training."

Braille Transcription’s sponsored pup will spend much of the first year with a puppy walking volunteer, where it will be taught basic obedience and get used to a home environment, noise and the bustle of towns. The animal will be prepared for its working life ahead, which includes travelling on public transport including trains, buses and taxis.

Guide Dogs supplies basic equipment and covers all puppy walking feeding expenses. To become a puppy walker, volunteers will need to have access to a car. They will have to be home for most of the day, and free to take their puppy into many varied environments – sometimes busy and difficult. Their yard or garden will also need to be securely fenced so that the puppy remains safely within its confines.
